'Tex-Tile'

Comprising over 650 hand cut, carved and finished tiles, this fabric reflects a deep passion for clay as a material in its many forms.

Each tile is hand woven together with the core strands of recycled climbing rope. This connection is intentional and speaks to an activity which I appreciate for its ability to bring people closer to nature whilst contending with one’s own human nature.

Inspired by the multi-layered human experience, nature and the ceramic medium. Tex-tile can be read as individual tiles and together as a whole, this piece speaks to a multi-layered collection of moments informed and re-informed by my personal experience.

Clay has formed a deep relationship with my psyche. It has offered itself as a refuge, a space that allows me to find grounding and a means to quiet my mind, creating visual representations of inner landscapes as a result.

I find that clay, being so complex in its nature, has created a life long will to grow , learn and develop myself as an artist. It’s uniquely challenging and humbling.

My current work is the start of a larger body of work speaking to the creation of time in a frenzied working world and the results of finding peace and understanding in myself, coming to terms with my inner dialogue.
